As salamu 'alikum wr wb (May the Peace, Mercy of Allah and Blessings be upon you).
"I Read the Holy Qur'an everyday"-Tony Blair.
I read the Holy Quran everyday: Tony Blair
LONDON: In a startling revelation during an interview to The Observer magazine, the former British Prime Minister Tony Blair confessed to reading the Holy Quran, the holy scripture for the 1.5 billion global Muslim population, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Blair, who was famously reluctant to discuss his faith during his time in office, converted to Catholicism months after leaving 10 Downing Street in 2007, and set up the ‘Tony Blair Faith Foundation’, to promote respect and understanding between the major religions.
In the interview, he said “I read the Bible every day. I read the Quran every day, partly to understand some of the things happening in the world, but mainly just because it is immensely instructive.”
Reading Islam’s holy book ensured he remained ‘faith-literate’ said Blair, adding that he believes being faith-literate is crucial in today’s globalised world.
Blair believes that knowledge of Islam informs his current role as Middle East envoy for the Quartet of the United Nations, United States, European Union and Russia.
This isn’t the first time that the former British Premier had spoken so highly of the religion. In 2006 he said the Quran was a ‘reforming book, it is inclusive. It extols science and knowledge and abhors superstition. It is practical and way ahead of its time in attitudes to marriage, women and governance’.
He praised the Muslim faith as being ‘beautiful’ and that the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) as being ‘an enormously civilizing force’.
Last October, Blair’s sister-in-law Lauren Booth raised eyebrows after announcing that

What about the Swiss Politician who wanted to ban minarets in Switzerland? He also embraced Islam! Read about that here: http://www.acommonword.net/2010/05/amazing-swiss-politician-behind-minaret.html
What about the Episcopal Priest who was defrocked from her Church because she said Jesus told her in a dream to convert to Islam! Please read that here: http://www.acommonword.net/2010/05/episcopalian-priest-defrocked-jesus-led.html
In fact the more people learn about Islam they learn how beautiful, filled with wisdom and how sweet it is. Our Creator is wise and beautiful mash'Allah! You will also learn that the radicals do not have the final say in how our beautiful way of life is interpreted. You will see that Islam has a plethora of interpretations and understandings of the faith.
Ultimately I hope and pray that Allah will open up your eyes, and your hearts to accept the Creator into your life. I also hope and pray that Christians will turn back to the message of Christ Jesus and accept the worship of God (ALONE). Not God as part of '1 team'. God is not '1 team' God is ONE period!
God is ONE what?
ReplyDeleteWith the name of Allah,
ReplyDeleteMcElhaney as this is a topic that seemingly interest you would you like a list of books on Islamic theology that would help you to better understand the Muslim position?
Or would you say that your question is a polemic tool to further argue points that lead to know conclusion?
I leave you with your Creator to search with in yourself to ask that.
When you feel confident with your own approach to the matter rather or not your interested to know Islamic creed from authentic Muslim sources than we could proceed, much like some of the questions that you have from the exchange between the Rabbi and the Radio host.
I believe you had some good questions. Yet I am hesitant because some times in all honestly McElhaney I wonder how much of your own research have you put into it. Or have you taken this from polemical sites just to try and throw something back.
As I said before I have no desire to make a name for myself,or to be about I am right and your are wrong.
I am genuinely interested in being understood and trying to understand the other side.
It truly isn't attack. I know what the Bible teaches on the nature of God. It's not about scoring points. You said: Not God as part of '1 team'. God is not '1 team' God is ONE period! That is not what Christians believe about the nature of God. WE agree God in not one team. This begs the question to be asked "What do you understand God to be One of?"
ReplyDeleteSo instead of trying to correct your misconceptions of what we believe how about a positive explanation as to why you, a Muslim, reject the Trinity. If you want to provide sources or point to some debates where you think the Muslim position is well represented, please provide them.
As for how much of my own research I've put into the questions I've asked, you can clearly see because everything I have read and researched has gone on my blog. I'm more than willing to entertain the idea that I've been looking in the wrong places and if you have better resources, I'll look at them. Just like I can tell you don't understand what I believe, I'm more than willing to accept that you might think that I don't understand what you believe. I'll look at the resources if you point me in that direction.
"That is not what Christians believe about the nature of God. WE agree God in not one team. This begs the question to be asked "What do you understand God to be One of?"
ReplyDeleteIf this is not what you believe. That God is not 1 Team. Than what do you believe? God is one what?
This whole web site is all about why I as a Muslim reject the Trinity. I could also that I reject it for the same reasons that many Jews and Christians rejected it as well.
So if you do not believe that God is one team. Than what do you mean when you say that God is one? If you want to try obfuscation it is not going to work anymore.
If this is not what you believe. That God is not 1 Team. Than what do you believe? God is one what?
ReplyDeleteI asked you first. God is one what?
God is ONE being.
How do you fill in the blank?
"God is ONE ____"
Put the Trinity to the side and explain how you fill in that blank. As a Muslim, you disagree with Christians and Jews on fundamental issues, so how does Islam fill in the blank. You don't even have to craft a special answer to the question - just point out posts on the blog and elsewhere that answers that question.
With the name of Allah, Peace be unto those who follow the guidance from their Lord.
ReplyDeleteAgain not rocket science McElhaney. Allah is one in his nature and one in his essence. Allah is one being. Allah is one nature. Allah is one.
Allah is not like the Demons who say "We are many" and can yet fill one being (a human being). This is not how we look at the creator.
What you have is clear tri-theism three beings that share power and co-exist together which you try and pass off to the world as monotheism.
Allah is one being. Allah is not three.
When the Qur'an says 'Say not three' it addresses the Tri-theist, and the division that you as Christians have concerning the Trinity.
By saying 'Do not say three' it deals with it all in one fell swoop!
What you have is clear tri-theism three beings that share power and co-exist together which you try and pass off to the world as monotheism.
ReplyDeleteYou still don't understand what trinity is saying. In your argument you did not say that Allah is one person. Why? Because the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is not one person. Christians do not say that God is three Beings. "Being" and "Person" is not the same thing.
Allah is one being. Allah is not three.
We agree God is three Beings. God is one Being.
With the name of Allah,
ReplyDeleteWhat you do not understand is that where we differ is that not only is Allah one being Allah is NOT a person.
You would have to define the terms being and person and what they mean in Hebrew, Aramaic, Koine Greek and Arabic.
From there it would help the discussion. However, we steer clear from Tri-theism. Allah is one!
We in our limited wisdom and knowledge do not know the true substance of Allah ... We are not to try and put an image of Him in our minds .. He is One ... what part of only One does not other religions understand? I am not trying to be disrespectful in any way .. it is just so very clear that in the Bible and the Quran He tells us He is to be worshiped alone with no partners and even in other religions such as Hinduisim a feference is made that there is ONLY ONE GOD ... MAY WE ALL GROW FROM THE KNOWLEDGE SHARED IN THE HOLY QURAN AND HOLD FAST TO WHAT OUR MOST MERCIFUL, LOVING AND ALL-KNOWING CREATOR IS TELLING US. ENSHALLAH MANY WILL COME TO SEE THE TRUTH IN ISLAM. ASAILUM AILAIKUM ... MALAK MOHAMED KHALID YOSEF
